7th December 2021 “The experience was a very pleasant one. Geoff put me at ease every lesson and explained the course very well, every step of the way.
I achieved a better understanding of my road positioning, road hazard awareness, and that doiing things the right/safe way can also be quicker.
The first two weeks were difficult getting myself into the IAM mindset. But after week three I understood the course a lot more and really enjoyed my time.”
12th July 2021 “What prompted you to join our IAM group: Wanting to improve road sense and become a safer rider.
Geoff was very knowledgeable, and took the time to explain in detail the rationale behind the various techniques. With clear instruction and guidance my riding has improved considerably, making me a more considerate and safer road user.
Overall an excellent experience, and with over 20 years riding experience I didn’t realise how much I still had to learn. The training is something that will stay with me and I will benefit from every time I’m on the road, regardless of mode of transport.”
26th July 2021 “Improved my riding skills and became a better, safer motorcyclist.
Really enjoyed riding with Geoff. Very knowledgeable. Put at ease. Assessed positives and negatives, incremental areas to work on each ride out. Steady progress up to point where I was ready for test.
The course has provided me with a system which I can use to continually self assess and improve my riding skills. Thank you to Geoff for his time and expert advice.”
DHVG IAM Photo Competition 2021
The annual photo competition took place at Decembers indoor meeting. 32 entries were received, and those present voted for their 3 favourites (1st,2nd and 3rd).
When the votes were counted there was a tie for second place, and a clear winner.
In third place was Iain Harwood with a picture of Riber Castle with the new apartment blocks below, in contrast.
Joint second were – David Graham with a picture of a Dragon Fly and Martin Knightons picture of snow and mist near Buxton.
The outright winner was Rob Lowe with his picture of water droplets with a refracted image of a flower in the droplets.
Well done Rob.
Chesterfield Biker Breakfast
The Derbyshire Upright team (Police and Fire Service) organised a Biker Breakfast event at Chesterfield Football Club recently. Several members of our Group kindly offered to attend to represent us and help any members of the public wanting advice. This was the first outing of our new gazebo, and it looks very smart. There was a lot of interest in what we have to offer, so we look forward to some new members.
Thanks to Tommy Thorpe, Keith Pearce, Keith Seaton, Rob Jones, Rob Lowe and Andy Statham (also a Blood Biker).
Latest Derwent and Hope Valley Update – Being a responsible group, we are obviously continuing to follow Government Instruction and iAM advice. Group outdoor meetings have restarted, as have car courses.
Our group provides a variety of advanced and safer driving schemes and assessments for motor cyclists, car and HGV drivers.
The group meets at 10:00am on the third Sunday of the month now at McDonalds Car Park Bakewell Road, Matlock for guidance sessions. Associate Members can use these sessions to go on observed runs with any of the observers.
Free assessment drives for local motorists and riders are provided for non-members.
Similar sessions are also conducted at 10:00am on the second Sunday of the month at the Eyre Arms Car Park, Calver.
During the summer period (May to September) Guidance Sessions will be held at The Duke William pub on the first Tuesday of every month. We may not have speakers or planned events every month, but it gives us chance to meet socially, and have rides out and drive checks. There is somewhere to go if it‟s bad weather and refreshments are available
Club meetings are held during October to April on the first Tuesday of each month at The Duke William, Starkhomes from 7:30pm. These social events include talks and presentations relating to motoring, annual quiz and AGM.
Talk and Presentation on Advanced Motorists
